Employment Law

Our employment practice takes a pragmatic and cost-effective approach to business. We advise businesses on compliance with state and federal employment laws. We draft non-competition, non-disclosure and non-solicitation agreements, prepare employee handbooks, draft personnel polices and procedures, draft sexual harassment policies, and prepare employment contracts. We consult with our clients on employee relations issues, hiring and termination, reductions-in-force, compliance with the WARN Act, and employee performance and discipline. We advise on wage and hour issues, including overtime and classification of employees as exempt and non-exempt. We also advise on the classification of workers as independent contractors.

We provide in-house training on subjects such as prevention of harassment and discrimination, managing electronic communications, avoiding discrimination in interviewing and sexual harassment prevention and investigation. Partner Maura Greene is a graduate of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination’s Train the Trainer course on preventing sexual harassment.

We represent individuals and businesses before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. We handle employment matters in the state and federal courts.
